Q: What is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

A: "Bioidentical hormones" are compounds that have the same chemical structure as hormones produced naturally in the body. Hormone levels decline as we age. Bioidentical hormone therapy replenishes the hormones that your body needs to function. Since FDA approved bioidentical hormones are of limited choices and limited dosage, the natural hormonal therapy we prescribe can be tailored to your specific need and be compounded by your professional local pharmacists.

Q: Who needs Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

A: Following people may need BHT:

  • Women suffering menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, mood swings, weight gain, and low libido.

  • Women suffering from peri-menopausal symptoms, PMS (premenstrual syndrome), premenstrual migraines, endometriosis, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), uterine fibroids and breast fibrocysts.

  • Men experiencing andropause (male menopause) with weight gain, low/lost of libido, fatigue, lost of energy and muscle mass, and accumulating body fat.

  • Men and women with metabolic disorder, insulin resistance and hypothyroidism.

Q: What are procedures of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy in office visit?

A: At your first office visit, we perform a comprehensive testing for your hormones to identify the underlying etiology of your symptoms. These tests include (but are not limited to) the followings:

  • CBC, CMP (comprehensive chemistry profile), Lipid Profile, Homocysteine, hsCRP (Looking for anemia, heart function, inflammatory status)

  • Testosterone level (to diagnose andropause/testosterone deficiency)

  • Estradiol and Progesterone (female hormones; testosterone can convert into Estrogen)

  • DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandosterone Sulfate. The most abundant hormone, receptors on every cell of your body; building material for testosterone and estrogen)

  • SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin. If high, binds your testosterone, estrogen and progesterone)

  • FSH and LH (Indicator of hypothalamus/brain receptor function; control the production of testosterone, estrogen and progesterone)

  • HgbA1C (Indicates what your blood sugar has averaged over three months; to screen diabetes and metabolic disorder)

  • HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. To rule out pregnancy; helps re-prime your hypothalamus to produce testosterone, and lose weight)

  • IGF-1 (as known as Human Growth Hormone)
